Albert Ojwang’s Father Moved by President Ruto’s Heartfelt Phone Call
President William Ruto has moved the nation with a rare gesture of compassion. He made a heartfelt phone call to Meshack Ojwang, father of the late blogger and teacher Albert Ojwang, who died under mysterious circumstances in police custody.
On Monday, June 16, Meshack revealed the emotional moment.
“I want to thank the President for taking my son as his own,” he said.
“So many young people have died recently, but he chose to share my pain.”
Governor Wanga Confirms Presidential Support
Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga visited the family at their rural home. She confirmed the president extended Ksh2 million in financial aid to assist with burial and family needs.
“The President has offered not only sympathy, but tangible support. It’s a step of leadership and humanity,” she said.
National Leaders Step Forward
The wave of support didn’t stop with the President. ODM Party leader Raila Odinga offered Ksh1 million to the family.

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja gave Ojwang’s wife a permanent, pensionable job to restore economic stability.
“This young family deserves a future,” Sakaja stated, while pledging to rally friends to buy land and build rental units for the family.
In a major move, Homa Bay County announced plans to construct a two-bedroom house for Ojwang’s parents to ensure long-term security.
Family Seeks Closure Amid New Developments
Back home in Homa Bay on Sunday, June 15, Meshack began traditional mourning. He formally announced to the community that Albert was no more.

However, even as healing begins, the family remains surrounded by national tension.
A Nation United in Grief and Hope
Albert Ojwang’s story has united Kenyans—leaders, citizens, and institutions—in a rare moment of shared sorrow and resolve. As his family begins to heal, the nation watches closely for justice.

“He took my pain,” Meshack said. “I am deeply grateful.”
