Maraga Demands Arrest of IG Kanja, DIG Lagat and DCI Boss Amin By June 25,“They Lied Under Oath!”
Former Chief Justice David Maraga has issued a bold and fiery ultimatum: arrest Former Chief Justice David Maraga Deputy IG Eliud Lagat, and DCI boss Mohammed Amin by June 25—or face private prosecution.
While addressing the press on Monday, June 16, Maraga shocked the nation by accusing the top police bosses of conspiring and covering up the murder of blogger Albert Ojwang.
“They gave false sworn statements regarding Ojwang’s murder. Their lies contradict police reports,” Maraga claimed, visibly shaken.
“They Tortured and Killed Him!” – Serious Allegations Against DIG Lagat
In a jaw-dropping statement, Maraga dropped damning allegations against Deputy IG Lagat. He said there was prima facie evidence implicating Lagat in the illegal arrest, torture, and eventual strangulation of Ojwang.
“Lagat was either directly involved or acted through accomplices. Yet he still holds office,” Maraga decried.
The former CJ insisted that continued silence or inaction by the state would amount to gross injustice and mockery of Kenya’s Constitution.
Trust Broken: Kenyans Deserve Accountability
Maraga did not mince words as he attacked the National Police Service (NPS), the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), and the DCI. He said the institutions had lost public trust and must be overhauled from the top down.

“Kenyans can no longer trust these institutions. The justice system must be reset and rebuilt,” he emphasized.
According to him, the first step in this process is the arrest and prosecution of the implicated officers, including those within their inner circles.
“We demand the arrest of the DCI for lying under oath. IG Kanja and Mr. Lagat must also be prosecuted,” he added.
Maraga Threatens Private Prosecution
Maraga made it clear: If no arrests happen by June 25, he will personally join efforts to privately prosecute the trio.
“We’ll take legal action ourselves. We won’t allow this injustice to continue,” he said firmly.

A Nation Watching – Will Justice Be Served?
Kenyans are now watching closely. Civil society groups, legal experts, and families of victims await the state’s next move. With a former Chief Justice leading the charge, the pressure on the state is higher than ever before.
The big question remains: Will justice prevail—or will silence protect the powerful?
