Justice in Motion: Police Officer Arrested Over Blogger Albert Ojwang’s Death in Custody
Authorities have finally made a breakthrough in the shocking death of blogger and teacher Albert Ojwang. A police officer attached to Nairobi’s Central Police Station was arrested on Thursday, June 12, in connection with the disturbing case.
According to an internal memo seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the officer was placed in custody at Capitol Hill Police Station by detectives from the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) and the Internal Affairs Unit (IAU).
“Please be informed that an officer of Central Police Station Nairobi was arrested today, 12/06/2025,” the memo confirmed. “He is currently being held by IPOA and IAU pending further investigations.”
Probe Uncovers Disturbing Gaps in Police Procedures
The arrest follows days of public outcry, protests, and pressure from lawmakers and civil rights groups. It also comes a day after IPOA presented the names of six officers involved in Ojwang’s arrest from Homa Bay County.
Surprisingly, the arrested officer was not on that list.

While authorities have not confirmed the officer’s exact role in the killing, sources believe his apprehension is linked to procedural breaches—specifically, the failure to properly book Ojwang upon arrival at the station.
Even more concerning, investigators uncovered that CCTV cameras inside the station were tampered with on the day of the incident.

CCTV Footage Mysteriously Deleted After Ojwang’s Arrival
IPOA Chairperson Issack Hassan stunned Kenyans on Thursday when he revealed that the digital video recorder (DVR) was manipulated shortly after Ojwang arrived at Central Police.
“The discs were removed and replaced on June 8, 2025, between 07:23:29 and 07:23:48 hours,” Hassan reported.
“We are working to recover everything that was erased. There’s hope we can piece together what really happened,” Kanja stated.
Authorities Zero in on CCTV Saboteur
Additionally, investigators are focusing on the individual who unplugged the power source to the surveillance system around the time Ojwang was brought into custody.
This discovery raises even more questions about a possible cover-up within the station.
As the nation demands accountability, Thursday’s arrest offers a glimmer of hope that justice for Ojwang—and his grieving family—might finally be within reach.
