Heavy Military Presence as Aircraft Crashes Into Building in Mwihoko Near Nairobi
Mwihoko, Kiambu County – A terrifying scene unfolded on Thursday afternoon after an AMREF light aircraft crashed into a residential area in Mwihoko, sending shockwaves across the region.
Fire, Screams, and Chaos

Residents, drawn by the loud bang, rushed to the site in panic.
Smoke billowed into the sky as people screamed for help.
“I saw it flying low. Then it suddenly tilted and hit the ground with a loud explosion,”
said an eyewitness, still shaking.
“Flames rose immediately. We knew something terrible had happened.”
Heavy Military and Emergency Response
Soon after the crash, heavily armed military officers arrived, taking over the scene. They were seen working alongside residents to contain the blaze.
“The military came in fast. They helped stop the fire before it spread to nearby homes,”
another resident revealed.
Firefighters from Ruiru town also responded promptly, managing to extinguish the inferno. Although some structures were saved, others weren’t so lucky.

The crash destroyed a newly built, unoccupied building, while also bringing down a power line, plunging parts of Mwihoko into darkness.
Lives Feared Lost, Cause Unknown
“We saw the wreckage. People were inside. Some were pulled out, but it didn’t look good,”
said a young man who joined the rescue.
Despite growing anxiety, the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) and National Police Service have yet to release a formal statement.
Another Addition to Kenya’s Aviation Tragedies
This incident comes just months after another aircraft crash in Malindi, which claimed three lives in January.
That crash also involved a small aircraft, which failed shortly after takeoff. A boda boda rider, his passenger, and a pedestrian died on the spot.
Community in Mourning, Country Demands Answers
As residents try to make sense of the tragedy, calls for improved aviation safety grow louder.

“Why are these crashes happening so often? Who’s checking these planes?”
questioned a Mwihoko elder.ALSO READ: Chaos on Jogoo Road: Boda Boda Riders Torch Bus After Fatal Crash Sparks Fury
