Four Police Officers Killed in Horrific Garissa Highway Crash
According to witnesses, the officers were travelling in a police vehicle when the driver allegedly lost control. The vehicle veered off the road and rolled multiple times, killing four officers instantly.
Eyewitnesses Blame Speeding
A witness at the scene recounted,
“The police vehicle was speeding. Suddenly, it swerved and started rolling. It was terrifying.”
Six officers were on board at the time. Two survivors were critically injured and rushed to a nearby hospital. Medics described their condition as “very serious.”
“We received two officers in critical condition. They had multiple fractures and internal injuries,” a medical officer revealed.
Silence from Police Headquarters
Despite the severity of the incident, the National Police Service (NPS) has not yet issued an official statement.
However, officers at the local station confirmed the loss.
“Four of our colleagues died on the spot. We are heartbroken,” one officer shared while holding back tears.
The bodies have since been moved to the mortuary. Investigations into the exact cause of the crash are ongoing.
Recent Surge in Police Road Deaths
This latest tragedy adds to a worrying trend. Over five officers have perished in road accidents this month alone.
Just two weeks ago, two officers died in Matisi after their patrol car collided with a trailer.
“The roads have become deadly for our officers. Something needs to change,” said a concerned local leader.
Bukembe Boys School Bus Also Crashes
Meanwhile, in Bungoma County, a bus ferrying Bukembe Boys High School students was also involved in an accident.

The students were returning from a county music festival held at Cheptais Boys High School.
Though no lives were lost, several students were injured and taken to Sirisia Sub-county Hospital.
“They are all receiving medical care. We’ve informed their families,” a school official confirmed.
Eyewitnesses blamed a dangerous bend on the road for the incident.

“That corner is known to be slippery and steep. Many accidents happen there,” said a resident of Cheptais.
Authorities Launch Probe
Both accidents have prompted investigations. County officials and police are urging drivers to exercise caution.
“Lives are being lost senselessly. We must take road safety more seriously,” stated Bungoma County Police Commander.
