CHAOS ON OUTERING ROAD: Rival Youth Clashes Paralyze Nairobi Highway, Motorists Attacked

Deadly violence erupted Thursday afternoon along Outering Road, leaving motorists terrified, businesses shattered, and Nairobi’s key transport route completely blocked.

“Avoid Outering Road, Kiamaiko, Kariobangi, and Allsops areas. Rival youth are fighting and motorists are being robbed!”
This chilling alert spread rapidly across social media as the city descended into panic.

A Mob Justice Killing Ignites Ethnic Tension

The chaos reportedly began after a suspected thief was killed by a mob in the Kiamaiko area. In retaliation, angry youth from the Somali community launched protests, accusing the mob of targeted violence and injustice.

“They killed one of ours! This cannot continue!” shouted one protester as flames lit up the road behind him.

Protesters quickly barricaded roads, lit tires, and began attacking pedestrians and vehicles trying to pass. Fear and confusion spread fast.

A Rival Youth Group Escalates the Violence

Shortly after, an unidentified rival group emerged and confronted the Somali youth. Eyewitnesses say the groups fought using stones, sticks, and metal rods, turning Outering Road into a battleground.

“We couldn’t move. Our cars were stuck. People were screaming, windows were being smashed!” said a terrified motorist who narrowly escaped the scene.

Traffic Paralyzed, Police Overwhelmed

The stretch from Kariobangi to Allsops became completely impassable. Vehicles were abandoned, while businesses were forced to shut down.

“We called the police, but they were outnumbered. The gangs were everywhere,” said a shopkeeper near Kariobangi.

As violence escalated, the government deployed additional anti-riot police, but tensions remained dangerously high by late afternoon.

A Road with a Violent Past

Outering Road is no stranger to unrest. Just a month ago, during anti-tax protests on June 25, looters torched a major shoe store along the same highway.

“We’ve protested accidents here, poor drainage, now mob justice. This road is cursed,” another local lamented.

With each new protest, lives are disrupted and property destroyed, yet long-term solutions remain elusive.

Call for Urgent Intervention

Residents, leaders, and motorists are now demanding urgent intervention to stop the rising wave of lawlessness.

“We need peace. We need justice. We need leadership,” a youth leader from Kariobangi said during a press plea.

As night falls over Nairobi, many wonder what tomorrow will bring—and whether this dangerous cycle of violence will ever end.
