“Monday is not a holiday!” CS Ruku declares amid nationwide tension
While speaking in Embu County during a Sunday church service graced by President William Ruto, Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku made it clear there would be zero tolerance for absenteeism.
“Tomorrow, Monday, is not a public holiday. All civil servants across the Republic of Kenya are expected to be in their offices regardless,” Ruku stated emphatically.
He went on to emphasize that no excuses related to the protests would be accepted.

“We are expected to report to work as per the Human Resources Policies and Procedure Manual,” he added.
Spot Checks and Show-Cause Letters
In a strong tone, CS Ruku announced that impromptu spot checks would be conducted across government offices countrywide. He warned that any civil servant found absent would receive a show-cause letter immediately.
“Those saying that tomorrow is a public holiday, we are expected to be in our offices exactly at the required times,” he said.
“I will be doing spot checks, and should I find that there are no people, then expect showcause letters.”
All government offices, according to Ruku, will operate from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM without exception, with a strict lunch break at 12:30 PM. He made it clear that unsanctioned breaks or delays would not be tolerated.
Meanwhile… Streets Prepare for Protest Heat
Already, over 20 schools have asked parents to keep their children at home due to safety fears linked to the protests. Likewise, several businesses and private companies have issued work-from-home notices to avoid being caught in potential unrest.
Despite the rising anxiety, Ruku insists that civil service must remain uninterrupted.

“The government will not be paralyzed. Public service must go on. We cannot give in to fear.”
As Monday approaches, Kenya waits anxiously, balancing civic duty against civil unrest. Whether protests will paralyze operations or the government will hold firm remains to be seen.
