“ODM or Not, I’m Running!” – Defiant Babu Owino Declares Nairobi Governorship Bid
In a bold, emotion-packed interview, Owino didn’t mince his words.
“ODM may not give me the ticket because Johnson Sakaja was endorsed at Bomas,” he said.
“But I’ll run—solo if I must!”
This statement comes amid growing tension within ODM, as Owino continues to oppose the party’s warming relations with the government.
‘Nairobi Deserves Better’ – Owino Targets Sakaja
Owino’s criticism of current Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja was relentless.

“Nairobi is sinking in poor drainage, mismanaged funds, and lawlessness,” Owino said.
“The Governor has failed on oversight and revenue management.”
He accused Sakaja of ignoring vital committee reports and allowing chaos to reign during protests.
“This city is run in total disregard of the rule of law,” he claimed.
Overqualified and Ready to Lead
Despite resistance, Owino is confident.
“I’m not just qualified. I’m overqualified,” he stated boldly.
“From SONU to Parliament—I’ve always led with courage.”
Independent if I Must, But Still ODM at Heart
While the MP is prepared to go it alone, his love for ODM—and its leader—is unwavering.
“I will always respect Baba. He’s my political father,” Owino said, referring to Raila Odinga.
“In a family, a father can favour one child more. That doesn’t make me hate him.”
However, he remained firm about standing on principle.
“I criticise the government not out of hate, but because it’s the right thing to do,” he explained.
“Even in private, I won’t support what’s wrong.”
Presidency Next? Kenyans Say, Why Not!
Interestingly, a growing number of Kenyans are urging Owino to run for President instead. Although he hasn’t officially responded, he admitted the calls are increasing.

“I hear what Kenyans are saying. Let’s first fix Nairobi, then we talk,” he teased.
The Stage Is Set
As the 2027 elections approach, Nairobi’s political battlefield is heating up fast. With or without ODM, Babu Owino is determined to bring change—and the people are watching.
