KSL Suspends Applications Amid Dispute Over New Admission Rules
The suspension, announced on Thursday, October 15, has left prospective law students uncertain about the next steps in the admission process, which was initially scheduled to close on November 13.
“The Kenya School of Law hereby informs all prospective applicants and other stakeholders that, following the issuance of interim orders by the High Court in relation to the advertised ATP intake, the receipt of applications for admission to the ATP Class of 2027/2028 academic year has been temporarily suspended pending further directions from the Court and the determination of the matter,” the institution stated.

“Further updates will be communicated through the School’s official communication channels as appropriate,” KSL added.
High Court Halts New KSL Admission Rules
The orders came after petitioners challenged changes introduced in KSL’s admission notice for the upcoming academic year.
The petitioners argued that substantive changes to admission standards cannot be introduced through an annual intake notice without following the legally required regulatory process.
The court directed the respondents to file their responses within seven days and scheduled the matter for priority consideration. A hearing was set for October 13.
What Changed in KSL’s Admission Requirements?
However, KSL’s revised admission notice introduced alternative entry routes for certain applicants.
These included provisions for some law graduates who had lower secondary school grades, as well as candidates who pass a Pre-Bar Examination.

The court’s intervention means the disputed requirements cannot be used for admissions while the interim orders remain in force.
The final position will depend on the court’s determination and any subsequent directions issued to the institutions involved.
Pre-Bar Examination Applications Remain a Separate Issue
KSL had opened applications for the examination alongside the ATP intake, with the deadline scheduled for December 11.
The examination provides an alternative pathway referenced in the revised admission criteria, making its status important to applicants seeking to qualify for legal training.
Applicants Await Court Directions
Until the court issues further directions, prospective applicants cannot proceed with the suspended admission process under the advertised intake.

For now, applicants have been advised to follow official updates as the case proceeds. The court’s eventual decision will determine how the contested admission rules are handled and what happens next for the affected intake.
