KUCCPS Opens Applications for Diploma in Law at Kenya School of Law for May 2026 Intake

Nairobi, Kenya – The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has officially opened applications for students seeking to pursue diploma courses at the Kenya School of Law, beginning with the May 2026 intake.

In a notice issued on Monday, February 23, KUCCPS urged prospective applicants interested in entering the legal profession through paralegal training to submit their applications via its online portal before the deadline.

“Applications for the Diploma in Law programme are now open for the May 2026 intake. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply through the KUCCPS portal before March 9,” the statement read.

Entry Requirements

According to KUCCPS, the minimum entry requirement for the diploma programme is a mean grade of C plain in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE). Applicants must also have attained at least a C+ in either English or Kiswahili.

The programme will be offered at the Kenya School of Law’s Karen Campus as well as the Town Campus located in Nairobi’s central business district. Students will have the option of attending day classes in person or enrolling in evening virtual courses, providing flexibility for working professionals and those balancing other commitments.

Context of the Announcement

The announcement comes against the backdrop of the 2025 KCSE results, where a total of 993,000 candidates sat the national examination. Of these, 270,715 candidates attained a mean grade of C+ and above, qualifying them for direct entry into university.

Another 507,131 candidates scored grade C and above, while 634,082 candidates attained D+ and above. Education officials noted that the diploma in law programme provides an alternative pathway for students who may not qualify for direct entry into law degree programmes but are keen to pursue careers in legal practice and paralegal services.

Expanding Access to Legal Training

The Kenya School of Law has emphasized that the diploma programme is designed to equip learners with foundational knowledge in legal studies, preparing them for roles in law firms, corporate institutions, and government agencies.

“This programme is intended to broaden access to legal training and provide opportunities for students who wish to contribute to the justice sector through paralegal work,” KUCCPS noted.

The Ministry of Education has welcomed the initiative, highlighting its importance in expanding opportunities for young people and strengthening the country’s legal workforce.

Broader Implications

Analysts say the opening of diploma applications at the Kenya School of Law reflects growing demand for legal education in Kenya, particularly among students who may not meet the higher thresholds required for law degree programmes. The move is also seen as part of broader efforts to professionalize paralegal services and enhance access to justice across the country.

With the legal sector facing increasing demand for skilled personnel, the diploma programme is expected to attract significant interest from students seeking practical training and career opportunities in law.

Conclusion

As KUCCPS opens applications for the May 2026 intake, the Kenya School of Law is positioning itself as a key institution in expanding access to legal education. With flexible learning options and clear entry requirements, the diploma in law programme offers a pathway for thousands of students eager to join the legal profession and contribute to Kenya’s justice system.
