Wiper Denies Kalonzo-Gachagua Secret Political Deal Ahead of 2027 Elections
Wiper issued the clarification on Thursday, August 20, after reports circulated online claiming that Kalonzo and Gachagua had reached a political deal during a private meeting at Gachagua’s Wamunyoro residence.
The party dismissed the reports as misleading and said no exclusive agreement had been reached between the two leaders.
“The Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) has noted media reports suggesting that a political deal has been concluded between H.E. Kalonzo Musyoka and H.E. Rigathi Gachagua. We wish to set the record straight: no such exclusive deal exists.”
Wiper Explains Kalonzo-Gachagua Meeting
According to Wiper, the meeting at Wamunyoro on Monday, August 17, had a different purpose from what was reported.

The party said Gachagua invited Wiper MPs and senators to thank them for standing with him during the impeachment process that removed him from the office of Deputy President in 2024.
“The meeting held on August 17, 2026 at the Wamunyoro Residence was convened by H.E. Rigathi Gachagua to thank WPF Members of Parliament and Senators for the solidarity they showed him during his impeachment.”
Wiper, however, rejected that narrative.
Wiper Backs Opposition Coalition
The party maintained that it remains committed to working with other opposition parties to build a broad political coalition.
Wiper said its political strategy would continue to focus on cooperation with parties within the proposed United Alternative Government.
“WPF remains committed to building a strong, principled coalition with its sister parties in the United Alternative Government In Waiting.”
Kalonzo is among the senior opposition figures whose name has featured prominently in discussions about the opposition’s possible presidential ticket.
Gachagua has also been building his political base after leaving government and launching the Democracy for the Citizens Party.
Wiper Defends Kalonzo’s Record
Wiper also used the statement to defend Kalonzo against criticism over his long career in public service.
The party rejected claims that the former vice president had little to show for his years in national leadership.
“His decades of public service have been marked by integrity, patriotism, diplomacy and an unwavering commitment to constitutionalism, peace and democratic governance.”
The party further dismissed suggestions that Kalonzo lacks the ability or determination to lead Kenya.

It argued that national leadership should be assessed beyond political alliances and election calculations.
“Leadership should be judged by character, wisdom, consistency, courage and the ability to unite Kenyans.”

For now, Wiper insists that no secret Kalonzo-Gachagua deal has been concluded, leaving the question of how the two political camps will work together ahead of the election open.
