Moses Kuria Predicts Historic 2027 Presidential Run-Off: “No One Will Win in Round One”
A political tremor shook Kenya’s landscape on Sunday after Moses Kuria, former Senior Economic Advisor to President William Ruto, boldly predicted a presidential run-off in 2027. Kuria, who now chairs Chama cha Kazi (CCK), claimed that for the first time in 33 years, Kenyans will vote twice to elect their next president.
“A New Chapter Will Be Written”—Kuria Foresees Electoral Shift
Taking to social media, Kuria declared that Kenya’s multi-party democracy had matured to a point where no single candidate would secure an outright win.
“Kenya’s fledgling multi-party democratic project has been growing gradually over the last 33 years,” Kuria wrote. “In 2027, a new chapter will be written. The winner will be decided in a run-off,” he added.

He cited the increasing number of political parties and aspirants as the main reason for the anticipated split vote.
“Too Many Candidates”—Kuria Warns of Fragmented Support
Kuria’s prediction stems from the growing list of presidential hopefuls. Besides President Ruto, several opposition figures have hinted at running, including Rigathi Gachagua, Martha Karua, Eugene Wamalwa, Kalonzo Musyoka, and Fred Matiang’i.
Even former Chief Justice David Maraga and Mumias East MP Peter Salasya have expressed interest.
“With so many contenders, no one will cross the 50% mark in round one,” Kuria stated.
He referenced the 2022 elections, where Ruto narrowly avoided a run-off by securing 50.49% of the vote against Raila Odinga’s 48.85%.
“Litigation Will Drag On”—Kuria Cites Legal Delays
Kuria also warned that legal battles could delay the 2027 elections. He blamed the late appointment of IEBC commissioners and ongoing court cases.

“In another 39 days, we start the 24-month countdown to 2027,” Kuria said. “This case may go all the way to the Supreme Court,” he added.
Although the IEBC has now been constituted and by-elections are scheduled for November 27, Kuria believes litigation will remain a major hurdle.
ODM Yet to Declare, Ruto Remains the Only Confirmed Candidate
While President Ruto has confirmed his bid, Raila Odinga’s ODM party remains undecided. During ODM’s recent anniversary, Raila urged members to wait for an official position.
“Don’t commit the party to things not discussed,” Raila said. “Who told you ODM doesn’t have a candidate in 2027?” he asked.
As the political field widens, Kuria’s forecast of a run-off adds fuel to an already heated race.
