Angry Residents Torch Super Metro Bus After Fatal Accident on Thika Superhighway

Angry Residents Torch Super Metro Bus After Fatal Accident on Thika Superhighway

Chaos erupted on Thika Superhighway on Monday afternoon after angry residents set ablaze a Super Metro bus. The shocking incident caused heavy traffic snarl-ups and panic among motorists.

How the Tragedy Started

According to eyewitnesses, the bus allegedly knocked down a bodaboda rider, killing him instantly. The rider sustained severe head injuries and died at the scene.

One resident told reporters,

“The young man had no chance. The bus hit him head-on, and he collapsed instantly.”

Within minutes, crowds gathered. Tension rose as furious residents demanded justice.

Bus Goes Up in Flames

The mob then descended on the bus. Images captured from the scene showed it engulfed in towering flames while onlookers watched helplessly.

Another eyewitness narrated,

“People shouted that the bus must be burnt. Before police arrived, the fire had already consumed it.”

By evening, the bus was reduced to a charred shell, beyond any repair.

Panic and Fear Spread

Meanwhile, confusion spread online as social media users warned of an unfolding disaster. Posts claimed the bus was about to be torched. Motorists were urged to avoid the route.

A stranded motorist shared,

“We were stuck for hours. Nobody moved. People feared the fire could spread.”

The incident caused a heavy traffic build-up stretching from Burudani area all the way to Juja Town.

Sacco and Authorities React

The Motorists Association of Kenya confirmed the tragedy, stating that the collision was fatal.

In their statement, they noted,

“The bus collided head-on with the boda boda, leaving the rider with no chance of survival.”

However, it remains unclear if passengers were inside the bus when it was torched.

Police have launched investigations, while the Super Metro Sacco is yet to issue an official statement.

A Community in Shock

The rider’s death and the violent retaliation sparked debate on road safety and mob justice. Residents remain shaken, with many calling for stricter traffic rules to protect both motorists and riders.

One mourner said,

“We’ve lost too many lives here. But burning buses will not bring them back.”
