Morocco Beat Madagascar to Win Thrilling CHAN Final in Kasarani

The Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, roared with excitement as Morocco lifted the 2024 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) trophy.

The Atlas Lions beat a stubborn Madagascar 3-2 in a breathtaking final, securing their third title. With this win, Morocco became the most successful team in the competition’s history.

Madagascar Strikes First

The underdogs shocked fans in the ninth minute with a stunning opener.

Clavin Felicite ‘Fely’ Manohantsoa smashed a 20-yard rocket straight into the top-left corner. The goal came after a quick passing move that left Morocco’s defense exposed.

Spectators jumped to their feet in disbelief. The Barea had drawn first blood.

Morocco Fights Back

Despite the early setback, Morocco refused to crumble.

In the 27th minute, Youssef Mehri leveled the scores with a calm finish. The equalizer reignited Morocco’s rhythm as their supporters sang louder.

Just before halftime, their star striker Oussama Lamliouli struck again. He pounced in the 44th minute, turning the tide in Morocco’s favor.

The Atlas Lions went into the break 2-1 up, but the game was far from over.

Madagascar’s Brave Response

The Barea returned from halftime determined not to give up.

In the 68th minute, Toky Niaina Rakotondraibe silenced Morocco’s fans. His silky finish brought Madagascar level, 2-2, and set the stage for a dramatic finale.

For a moment, extra time looked certain. Madagascar’s bench celebrated wildly, believing an upset was within reach.

Lamliouli’s Magical Moment

However, Morocco’s talisman, Lamliouli, refused to settle.

In the dying minutes, he produced a strike that will be remembered for years. He shrugged off a defender, unleashed a half-volley from beyond the halfway line, and left goalkeeper Michel Ramandimbisoa rooted.

The ball soared, dipped, and smashed into the net. Kasarani erupted.

The technical benches could not believe it. Morocco’s coach, Tarik Sektioui, put his head in his hands in sheer astonishment.

“That was pure magic,” one Moroccan official was heard saying on the sidelines.

With that, Lamliouli sealed the win and claimed the tournament’s golden boot.

Morocco Crowned Champions

The final whistle blew, and Morocco celebrated their hard-fought 3-2 victory.
