Former State House Senior Adviser Moses Kuria has shocked Kenyans once again with explosive claims of bribery in Parliament. His remarks come just a week after President William Ruto warned legislators against taking bribes to influence decisions.

Kuria’s Startling Revelation

Speaking on Citizen TV, Kuria boldly stated that MPs in the 12th Parliament pocketed bribes to remove Aden Duale as Majority Leader.

“In the 12th Parliament, we were given some money by the Uhuru Kenyatta regime to remove Aden Duale as the Majority Leader. It is on Hansard that I waved the money I was given there. You cannot say it doesn’t happen,” Kuria revealed.

He further disclosed the exact amount.

All Committees Paralyzed as Lawmakers Clash With Ruto Over Bribery Claims

“We were given Ksh100,000 per person to remove Aden Duale and put in place Amos Kimunya. And I went to the floor of the House and said this is the money I was given, and I offered to give it back,” he added.

Kuria stressed that the incident is captured in Parliament’s Hansard record, making it undeniable.

A Political Purge Fueled by Division

At the time, Kenya’s politics was sharply divided between the Kieleweke and Tangatanga factions. Duale, who opposed the Kenyatta administration from within, quickly became a target. Kuria insists MPs had to be “facilitated” before replacing him with Amos Kimunya.

This is not the first time he has made the claims. In 2021, he told the BBC that MPs were “facilitated” to endorse Kimunya’s rise.

Ruto’s Angry Stand on Corruption

Kuria’s revelations have surfaced at a tense moment. On Monday, President Ruto strongly condemned MPs and Senators accused of demanding bribes to perform their roles.

During a fiery joint parliamentary group meeting between Kenya Kwanza and ODM, Ruto warned:

“We will apprehend and prosecute leaders who solicit or receive bribes. It must stop.”

The President’s words, however, sparked fury in Parliament.

Parliament Fires Back

In retaliation, the National Assembly suspended all committee activities on Tuesday. Lawmakers accused Ruto of undermining their independence. The standoff has now escalated into a direct clash between the Executive and the Legislature.

A Nation on Edge

Kuria’s bold disclosure has once again laid bare the rot inside Kenya’s Parliament. His revelations, combined with Ruto’s crackdown, raise urgent questions about the integrity of lawmakers.

For now, Kenyans are watching closely. Will the truth come out, or will politics bury it again?
