Man Charged With Assaulting Female Comedian during Kutit Cultural Festival

Drama turned to horror at the Kutit Cultural Festival on August 9. Popular comedian and digital creator Bella Comedy, born Carren Chepchumba, was brutally assaulted during the celebrations at Carnivore Grounds.

On Tuesday, the suspect behind the attack appeared before Kibera Law Courts. He faced two charges — robbery with violence and assault causing actual bodily harm.

Court records revealed the incident happened at around 8pm. Bella was filming content for her online audience when the man allegedly approached her.

According to the Director of Public Prosecutions, the meeting turned violent.

“It was during content creation when she met the accused person, who dragged her and assaulted her with kicks and blows,” the statement read.

The blows targeted her leg, stomach, and chest, leaving her with painful injuries. But the violence did not end there.

Prosecutors told the court the suspect also robbed Bella of Ksh30,000 and a smartphone worth Ksh26,000.

Suspect’s Plea and Release

Before Principal Magistrate C. M. Njagi, the accused pleaded not guilty to all charges. He was released on a bond of Ksh500,000.

The case will be mentioned on August 18, as Bella’s supporters call for swift justice.

Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi strongly condemned the attack.
