DCI Arrests Two Men Caught on Camera Burning Suspect Alive
Shock and fury swept across the country after a disturbing video emerged from Nyamira County showing a man being set ablaze by a mob. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has now confirmed the arrest of two key suspects linked to the horrifying incident.
“The suspects, identified as James Nyang’au Kieri and Evans Nyang’au Anyoka, were captured on a distressing footage that has since gone viral on social media, depicting them mercilessly assaulting a man suspected of theft and ultimately tossing him into a burning fire,” the DCI said in a statement.
The heart-wrenching event occurred on July 26, 2025, in Nyamira North. The viral video triggered national outrage, prompting a swift response from law enforcement. The DCI confirmed that the suspects were hunted down using forensic video analysis.

“Through forensic analysis, detectives trailed the suspects and apprehended them. They are currently in custody undergoing processing pending arraignment,” the DCI reported.
This brutal act of mob justice adds to a troubling trend, with the National Police Service (NPS) raising a red flag on the increasing number of such cases. Authorities are calling on the public to shun vigilante justice and respect legal procedures.

“The National Police Service expresses deep concern over the alarming rise in cases of mob injustice incidents and their severe implications for public safety. The public is urged to allow the justice system to take its course, as taking the law into one’s own hands will be met with the full force of the law,” the detectives warned.
This recent episode is a painful reminder of the dangers posed by mob violence. Though the man was a theft suspect, the brutal punishment he endured shocked many who viewed the footage.
Moreover, the DCI and NPS emphasized that justice should never be replaced with violence. They urged citizens to report crimes to the nearest police station rather than acting on impulse.

As investigations continue, the two suspects await arraignment. The public, meanwhile, is watching closely, demanding that justice be served—both for the victim and as a deterrent to others considering similar acts.
