How DCI Tracked Suspects in Viral Video of Man Thrown Into Fire
In a disturbing turn of events that shook the nation, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have apprehended two suspects involved in a horrific act of mob justice. The chilling incident occurred in Nyamira County on Saturday, July 6, where a man suspected of theft was brutally thrown into a fire by members of the public.
A graphic video of the incident surfaced online, leaving Kenyans in shock. In it, the suspects are seen “mercilessly assaulting a man suspected of theft and ultimately tossing him into a burning fire,” according to the DCI.
Thanks to forensic analysis, DCI detectives based in Nyamira North tracked and arrested the two suspects. “Through forensic analysis, detectives trailed the suspects and apprehended them. They are currently in custody, undergoing processing pending arraignment,” the DCI said in a statement on Wednesday, July 30.
The video, which went viral on social media, drew widespread condemnation. Citizens expressed outrage over the level of inhumanity witnessed. Despite public anger, the DCI strongly condemned the act, urging Kenyans to resist mob justice.
“The National Police Service expresses deep concern over the alarming rise in cases of mob injustice incidents and their severe implications for public safety,” the DCI said.

The agency also issued a stern warning to anyone tempted to take the law into their own hands. “The public is urged to allow the justice system to take its course, as taking the law into one’s own hands will be met with the full force of the law,” they warned.
Even where the victim survives, those involved risk being charged with assault or conspiracy to commit violence, offences that can lead to up to 14 years in jail.
The DCI’s swift response and arrest of the suspects has drawn praise, with many calling for more awareness on legal procedures and justice.

As the nation heals from this traumatizing episode, the message is clear: mob justice is not justice.
