William Ruto Donates KSh 20M to AIC Fellowship Annex, Defends Church Contributions

Eldoret – President William Ruto has vowed to continue supporting churches financially despite mounting criticism from Kenyans. On Sunday, March 9, he attended a service at AIC Fellowship Annex in Uasin Gishu, where he defended his frequent church donations.

How Much Did Ruto Donate?

During the service, Ruto donated KSh 20 million toward the church’s construction. He emphasized that no one would deter him from giving to churches, stating, “Those who are against the word of God and the building of sanctuaries in Kenya will fail. They will not succeed, they will not overcome us.”

He further declared his commitment, adding, “For the avoidance of doubt, because of the pushback from those who do not believe in God, who do not believe we should be building churches, and who do not believe we should be supporting the work of God in Kenya—I want to declare, as the leader of this nation, that God will be known.”

Defying Critics and Justifying His Generosity

Ruto slammed his critics, insisting that his donations would continue despite their opposition. “I had you had a harambee last week. Get the total multiplied by two and give me the invoice; that will be my contribution. I will continue giving, and I am not saying whether they like it or not,” he said, reinforcing his stance.

Roysambu Protests: Growing Discontent?

Ruto’s latest donation comes amid increasing protests against his contributions. Just days earlier, he pledged KSh 120 million to Jesus Winner Ministry in Roysambu, sparking backlash from a section of Kenyans.

On Sunday, March 2, during a service at Jesus Winner Ministry, he announced a KSh 20 million donation, with an additional KSh 100 million promised by his friends. His generosity triggered protests as some Kenyans questioned the source of the funds.

A group of youths attempted to stage demonstrations outside the church. However, anti-riot police swiftly intervened, using teargas to disperse them. Viral videos showed police officers clashing with protestors near the Roysambu roundabout. At least 38 people were arrested and taken to Kasarani Police Station, while several others sustained injuries during the chaotic scenes.

Church Contributions: Noble Cause or Political Strategy?

Ruto’s unwavering commitment to church donations has fueled debate nationwide. Supporters praise him for his generosity and deep faith, while critics question the transparency of the funds. As the controversy rages on, it remains unclear whether his persistent donations will strengthen his political influence or spark more unrest.
