Uhuru Kenyatta Honours Promise to Late Gospel Singer Betty Bayo’s Family, Donates Ksh1 Million
On Saturday, November 15, the Office of the Fourth President confirmed that spokesperson Kanze Dena visited the artist’s home to deliver Kenyatta’s condolences and extend financial support to her husband Huram Gitau, children, and relatives.

According to the statement, the donation was intended to ease the burden of funeral costs and to celebrate Bayo’s life and ministry.
“In his message, Kenyatta mourned Betty as an extraordinary minister of the gospel whose music uplifted countless hearts and inspired hope across the nation. Betty’s legacy will endure through her children, her music, and the many lives she touched,” the statement read.
Funeral Support
Plans for the donation were first revealed by fellow gospel musician Ben Gitae, who disclosed that Kenyatta had requested the names of Bayo’s children so their education could be supported through the Kenyatta Foundation.
Musician Ngaruiya Junior had earlier estimated that Bayo’s funeral would cost approximately Ksh3 million, underscoring the significance of Kenyatta’s contribution.
Bayo’s memorial service is scheduled to take place at Christian Foundation Fellowship (CFF) along Kiambu Road, a church where she frequently ministered through her music.

Passing of a Gospel Icon
Betty Bayo passed away on Monday, November 10, after a battle with leukaemia. Her family revealed that her health had deteriorated rapidly in the week leading up to her death.
The singer, known for her breakout hit 11th Hour, rose to prominence more than a decade ago and remained a beloved figure in Kenya’s gospel music scene. Her songs resonated deeply with audiences, often carrying themes of hope and resilience.
Her ex‑partner, Pastor Victor Kanyari, admitted he was unaware of the severity of her illness, a revelation that intensified his grief following her passing.
