“As a Ugandan refugee in Germany, I’m shocked that I have been denied re-entry into Germany by the German ILO in Nairobi, called Constantine,” Nyanzi wrote on her social media accounts.
But to her disbelief, the German International Labour Organization (ILO) officer, only identified as Constantine, dismissed her status.
“Constantine has declared that I am NOT a refugee in Germany. Despite showing the positive decision of BAMF, which firmly states that I am a refugee in Munich, he asserts I have not yet received a decision on my application,” she added.
“I have Saturday and Sunday to burn in Nairobi as I try to find my way to the German embassy where this Constantine works,” she said.
Follows Disturbing Arrest of Other Activists
This disturbing event follows a wave of aggression against East African activists. Just two days earlier, Ugandan journalist Agather Atuhaire was dumped at the Mutukula border, after allegedly being tortured by Tanzanian authorities. She had been detained alongside Kenyan activist Boniface Mwangi.
Hussein Khalid, CEO of VOCAL Africa, confirmed Agather’s release:
“Tortured, injured, broken body but determined spirit. Agather has been found. They must pay for what they did to Boniface and Agather. Justice must be done and seen to have been done.”

Agather later gave a chilling account of her ordeal:
“When five mean-looking men and one woman blindfolded and pushed us into a very dark car, I thought it was over!”
