According to Sammy’s brother, the broker had been lured into a meeting by unknown individuals. He had no idea they were armed.

“They called him for talks. He didn’t know they had weapons,” the brother said tearfully. “This was a setup. They planned it,” he added.
Sammy arrived on a motorbike, already bleeding and struggling to speak.
“We saw him arrive. He was badly injured,” a witness recalled. “Gunshots had echoed for several minutes before that,” another added.
“They Fired at Us!”—Crowd Confronts Armed Men
Locals say two men were intimidating Sammy when the crowd intervened. One panicked and fired into the air.
“I found them threatening the broker,” a resident said. “When the crowd gathered, one man started shooting,” he added.
A video captured the gunman fleeing while waving his weapon at the angry crowd.
“He ran while threatening to shoot us,” a protester said.

“We Want Justice!”—Residents Torch Vehicle in Protest
Outraged by the killing, residents took to the streets. They torched the suspects’ vehicle in protest.
“We couldn’t let them walk away,” one protester shouted. “This is our land. We won’t be silenced,” another added.
The protests continued into the night, demanding accountability and justice.
“Someone Approved This Violence”—Police Arrest Landowner
Authorities linked the dispute to a local landowner believed to have orchestrated the intimidation. He has since been arrested and is being held at Mavoko Police Station.
“We’ve taken the landowner into custody,” a police officer confirmed. “Investigations are ongoing,” he added.
As Katani mourns, the community demands answers and protection from land-related violence.

“We need safety. We need truth,” a resident pleaded.
