“Development Will Return to Mount Kenya” — Leaked Video Sparks Outrage
The controversy erupted after a video surfaced showing Kahiga suggesting that Raila Odinga’s death would redirect development from Nyanza to Mount Kenya.
“The demise of the former Prime Minister will bring back all development projects to our region,” Kahiga allegedly said.

“I Sincerely Apologise” — Governor Responds to Backlash
Following the backlash, Kahiga issued a public apology on October 18. He addressed the Odinga family and the nation during a press briefing.
“I want to sincerely apologise to our mourning nation,” Kahiga said. “To the family of the Rt. Hon Raila Odinga, Mama Ida, Rosemary, Junior, Winnie, Oburu, Ruth, and the Luo Nation.”
He also stepped down from his role as Vice Chairperson of the Council of Governors.
