State House Announces Auction of Unserviceable Cars, Car Washing Machines, Cookers & Other Items
In a rare but familiar move, the Executive Office of the President has announced a grand public auction.
Slated for Friday, June 13, the event will see Kenyans bid on unserviceable cars, car washing machines, cookers, old carpets, and more.
“All items are available for public auction. Come and bid,” read the official notice published in MyGov on Tuesday, May 27.
What’s Up for Grabs?
The list is long and curious.
Among the items to be auctioned are:
- Vehicles and spare parts
- Tyres and car batteries
- Electric cookers and laundry machines
- Generators, halogen lights, and a lawn mower
- Obsolete office and household items
Even rugs and old rags made the list.
“It’s a full garage and store clearance,” joked a Nairobi resident upon hearing the news.
How to Participate in the Auction
Interested Kenyans have been directed to show up at the State Department for Roads in Ruiru at 10 a.m. sharp on auction day.
To bid, one must pay a refundable deposit of KSh 50,000 in cash at the State House Cash Office in Nairobi.
“This is a standard deposit. It confirms you’re a serious bidder,” an insider told the press.
Additionally, the public can download the auction catalogue, which includes:
- The full list of items
- Conditions of sale
- Viewing dates
- Auction rules
The catalogue is available online at www.tenders.go.ke and www.president.go.ke.
Repeat of History
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time State House has sold items to the public.
Exactly one year ago, on May 28, 2024, a similar auction was held.
Then, unserviceable motorcycles, tyres, rims, and batteries were auctioned off under the same terms.
“It’s a great way to clear unused assets and let the public benefit,” said a senior procurement officer.

“All queries should be directed to Astorion Auctioneers,” the notice stated clearly.

“I just might get myself a car or cooker from State House!” exclaimed a hopeful bidder from Thika.
