Rachel Ruto and Joyce Kithure Hold First Public Meeting at State House in Matching Outfits
First Lady Rachel Ruto and Second Lady Joyce Kithure have rarely appeared together in public since Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s swearing-in on November 1, 2024. However, their recent meeting at State House on Monday, February 17, marked a significant moment.
Rachel Ruto shared photos on Instagram, showing the two women deep in conversation. The matching pink and cream suits they wore caught many people’s attention. Kenyans were delighted to see them together, given Joyce Kithure’s private nature.
Deep Discussions on Education
Seated on elegant chairs, the two engaged in a serious discussion about education. Rachel Ruto later explained their focus on sustainable school feeding programs through food production in schools.
“Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world,” she quoted Nelson Mandela.
She emphasized their shared passion for education, recalling their past experiences as teachers.
“As teachers, we know firsthand the power of education and the importance of ensuring that every child in our country has equal access to quality learning as a tool for transformation and development,” she wrote.
She highlighted that school feeding programs would support the government’s goal of achieving 100% enrollment and retention.

A Tour of the Kitchen Garden
After their discussion, Rachel Ruto took Joyce Kithure on a tour of the famous State House kitchen garden. The First Lady has been vocal about sustainable food production and often shares insights into her gardening projects.
