Spy Queen Jane Mugoh Speaks after Meeting Cop Who Kidnapped Her, Says He’s Still in Govt Service
“He looked at me, bent down, and was ashamed of his acts. He could not look at me, but I made sure I took his picture,” she said.
A Mission That Turned into a Nightmare
On November 25, 2021, Mugoh and her two staff—Gerishom Oliver Okoth and Newton Mkoyanzi—were abducted on the Mumias–Bungoma Road.
At the time, she was hunting down the killer of a chief nurse in Busia County. Just after arresting suspects, she was ambushed.
“He was the driver then,” she recalled. “They vowed to pay him KSh 20,000 to assist in the abduction. He didn’t initially know I was the target.”
Mugoh says she was sandwiched between kidnappers and a commandant. One attacker dropped out after realizing her identity. They dragged her deep into Burnt Forest, beat her, and argued about whether to kill her.
Luckily, the driver turned the car around and drove away, scattering the attackers. “Though he saved me, he’s still a criminal,” Mugoh insisted.
Shocking Discovery at Police Station
Just a week ago, Mugoh went to a police station on unrelated business. To her disbelief, the same man stood before her, now in uniform.

“I fear for common wananchi,” she said. “When someone meant to protect citizens commits crimes, my heart bleeds.”
Even more disturbing, the officer’s boss confirmed the man was his current driver but denied knowing his past.
“I can only confirm he is my driver. He was deployed here about a year ago. I don’t want to be entangled in the matter,” the senior officer said.
Cry for Justice
Back in October 2023, the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) recommended the prosecution of two DCI officers linked to her case.
“CI Stephen Mumba Karisa… and PC Joseph Kahuki… be charged with abducting and causing grievous harm,” IPOA stated.
Yet, despite these recommendations, Mugoh says justice remains out of reach.
“Are Kenyans truly safe?” she asked. “Why are officers charged with crimes still in office? IPOA and ODPP did their part. But senior officials have failed to act.”
Although she forgave her attackers, Mugoh now wrestles with whether to reopen the case.
“Should I leave it to God, or revive this case before others suffer like I did?” she asked.
