Six Suspects Arrested in Connection with Thika Patrol Officer’s Killing

The killing of Police Constable Bernard Koome in June sent shockwaves acrossPolice Constable Bernard Koome. After over a month of relentless investigations, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has finally broken the silence.

In a dramatic Monday morning raid on July 21, DCI officers captured six suspects allegedly linked to the cop’s cold-blooded murder.

“The suspects were tracked to a hideout in Kahawa West, Nairobi, using forensic evidence,”
— DCI said in an official statement.

Five suspects were rounded up in Kahawa West while a sixth was later arrested in Kiamumbi, Kiambu County during a follow-up operation. Police believe they now have the core gang behind the brutal crime.

Koome’s Last Patrol

Koome was killed while on routine patrol in the Cravers area of Thika West. He and a colleague had flagged down a suspicious motorcycle when the rider suddenly took off—firing back recklessly.

“One of the bullets struck Koome in the neck. He succumbed to the injury despite efforts to save him,”
— a police source revealed.

Two spent 9mm cartridges and a loaded CZ pistol magazine were recovered at the scene. These items later became the investigative breakthrough that linked the suspects to the killing.

Key Evidence, Swift Arrests

Detectives believe the seized vehicle, found during the Kahawa West raid, was used during the criminal act.

“The suspects will remain in custody for 21 days as investigations deepen,”
— said the presiding judge at Thika Law Courts.

The case has been scheduled for mention on August 11, as families of the slain officer cry for justice.

Another Tragedy In Siaya

While Kenyans are still digesting the Kiambu murder, another case has left the nation rattled. In Rarieda, Siaya County, a police officer’s lifeless body was found dumped along the Ndori–Luanda Kotieno Road.

The body was discovered near Rarieda Secondary School. DCI officers have launched investigations, and foul play is suspected.

“The circumstances remain unclear, but no stone will be left unturned,”
— a senior officer confirmed.

As citizens call for better protection of law enforcers, these two tragedies underscore the danger officers face daily in the line of duty.
