“The persons listed have been removed from the Register of Teachers,” Mitei stated. “They cannot teach unless expressly authorized by the Commission,” she added.

The Commission cited Section 30 (1)(e) of the TSC Act, which empowers it to deregister teachers for professional misconduct.
“Any school that employs a deregistered teacher will face a fine of not less than Ksh100,000,” she warned. “Or imprisonment for up to two years—or both,” she added.

“Out of these, 69 teachers were dismissed and deregistered,” Anyuor told the Senate Education Committee. “Their offences included inappropriate conduct with learners,” he added.
Additionally, nine teachers were dismissed but not deregistered. Twenty-five were suspended, with a chance of reinstatement. One intern was deregistered, while four were cleared after investigations. Three cases were dropped after the accused passed away before hearings.
Over 470 Teachers Deregistered in Five Years
Anyuor further disclosed that TSC has deregistered 470 teachers over the past five years for various offences. The Commission insists it will continue to uphold discipline and protect learners.
“We must ensure our schools remain safe and professional,” Mitei emphasized.
