Ruto Urges Germany’s Help in Ending Sudan and DRC Conflicts During Call With Chancellor Merz
President William Ruto has made a passionate appeal to Germany for urgent intervention in the escalating conflicts in Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). During a phone call with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on Thursday, November 6, Ruto emphasized the need for global cooperation to restore peace in Africa.
“We Must End the Violence” — Ruto Calls for Germany’s Support
Ruto revealed that the conversation focused heavily on regional peace and security. He expressed deep concern over the worsening humanitarian crises in Sudan, Somalia, and Eastern DRC.

“I had a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz earlier today,” Ruto said. “We noted our strong and enduring cordial relations and agreed to continue strengthening them.”
He added:
“On peace and security in our region, especially in Somalia, Sudan and Eastern DRC, we emphasised the urgency of ending the conflicts and the role Germany can play in this endeavour.”
“Sudan Is Bleeding” — Ruto Highlights El-Fasher Crisis
Ruto pointed to the recent capture of El-Fasher by Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The takeover has triggered a humanitarian disaster.
“Over 40,000 people have died. More than 12 million are displaced,” he noted.
The RSF continues to expand its territory, threatening to overthrow the current administration and destabilize the region further.

“DRC Needs Urgent Help” — Rebels Continue to Wreak Havoc
In Eastern DRC, the situation remains dire. Clashes between the DRC army and Rwandan-backed M23 rebels have left hundreds dead and thousands homeless.
“We cannot ignore the suffering in DRC. Lives are being lost daily,” Ruto stressed.
He urged Germany to support diplomatic and humanitarian efforts to end the violence.
“Thank You for Energy Support” — Ruto Appreciates Germany’s Investment
“Germany’s support in energy generation is timely and appreciated,” Ruto said.
He acknowledged the importance of reliable energy in driving development and improving livelihoods.
“Jobs for Kenyans” — Labour Agreement Gains Momentum
Ruto and Merz also discussed the implementation of the bilateral labour agreement signed earlier this year. The pact will allow more Kenyans to work in Germany.
“This agreement opens doors for our youth to gain global experience,” Ruto stated.
He emphasized that labour mobility strengthens both economies and fosters deeper ties.
“Africa-Europe Ties Must Grow” — Leaders Eye Luanda Summit
Finally, the two leaders agreed that the upcoming European Union–Africa Summit in Luanda, Angola, presents a perfect opportunity to deepen trade and investment ties.

“The Luanda Summit will be a befitting platform to strengthen our relationship,” Ruto affirmed.
He expressed hope that Africa and Europe will forge stronger partnerships for peace and prosperity.
