Ruto Urges Fans to Follow CAF Rules Ahead of Kenya vs Zambia Showdown

President William Ruto has called on Kenyans to maintain order during the highly anticipated Kenya vs Zambia match on August 17 at Kasarani.

Speaking at State House, Nairobi, on August 15, Ruto reminded fans that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) rules must be respected.

“On Sunday, we have a match between Kenya and Zambia at Kasarani. I ask Kenyans, let’s not cause distractions. Let’s ensure we follow the procedures and the CAF rules,” Ruto said.

Protecting Kenya’s Football Reputation

The President urged fans to help build Kenya’s image as a nation that values fair play.

“When you go to the match, let’s make sure we follow CAF rules. This is important so that we can continue our football game in a fair and safe way. Let’s make sure we build our nation’s reputation as a nation that knows how to play football fairly and with respect,” he stated.

Ruto warned that ignoring these guidelines could invite sanctions that might hurt Harambee Stars’ future opportunities.

Orderly Stadium Experience

The President also addressed ticket holders directly.

“Those who can make it to Kasarani because they have tickets must also be orderly,” he urged.

He praised fans for their unwavering support but stressed the need for restraint.

“I want to tell all fans, including the people of Kenya, that you have done a tremendous job supporting and cheering Harambee Stars. But we have to do this within the parameters of what is allowed by CAF, and therefore I’m urging everyone to be restrained,” he added.

Alternative Viewing Spots for All

To prevent overcrowding at Kasarani, Ruto revealed that the government will provide alternative fan zones. These spaces will have big screens and security personnel.

“Those who cannot make it to Kasarani, we are going to make it possible from other parts of the city so that we do not spoil the chances for Harambee Stars and our country,” the President said.

Where to Watch Without a Ticket

Fans without tickets can head to one of the six official viewing zones in Nairobi:

  • Uhuru Park
  • Lucky Summer (Ngomongo Area, behind Kasarani Stadium)
  • Dandora Stadium
  • Utalii (Stima Club)
  • Jacaranda Grounds
  • Kibera DC Grounds
