TUMBO LISILOSHIBA.Ruto, Kindiki, and Supreme Court Judges Set for Pay Rise
President William Ruto, Interior CS Kithure Kindiki, and Supreme Court judges are set for a salary increment. The move has sparked mixed reactions across the country.
The Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) recently announced the proposed pay rise, citing economic factors and the need to adjust top government officials’ earnings.
SRC Justifies the Pay Hike
Defending the decision, the SRC argued that salaries must reflect the economic realities of the country. The commission stated that top government officials require adequate compensation to match their responsibilities.
“This adjustment is based on economic trends and the need to maintain competitive salaries,” an SRC official explained.
The announcement comes at a time when Kenyans are struggling with high inflation and increased taxes. Many citizens question whether leaders should receive more pay while the public faces economic hardships.
How Much Will They Earn?
According to SRC, President Ruto’s salary will increase from KSh 1.4 million to KSh 1.6 million per month. CS Kindiki and other cabinet secretaries will see their pay rise from KSh 924,000 to KSh 1.06 million.
Public Outcry Over the Salary Adjustments
Kenyans have taken to social media to express their frustration. Many believe that instead of increasing government officials’ salaries, the focus should be on reducing the cost of living.

“How do they justify this pay rise while Kenyans are struggling to put food on the table?” one concerned citizen tweeted.
Others argue that civil servants, teachers, and healthcare workers should be prioritized instead.
Government Defends the Move
Despite criticism, government officials insist the pay rise is necessary. Supporters argue that well-paid leaders are less likely to engage in corruption.
“Fair compensation ensures government officials remain focused on service delivery,” a state official remarked.
However, opposition leaders have vowed to challenge the increment. They claim it is unfair to ordinary Kenyans who continue to suffer under a heavy tax burden.
What Happens Next?
The SRC will finalize the adjustments before implementation. Meanwhile, public debate continues, with many Kenyans demanding answers on why leaders’ salaries keep rising while economic conditions worsen.
