Edwin Sifuna Slams Ruto Over Early Campaigns Remarks: “He Has No Moral Standing”

President William Ruto has urged leaders to stop early campaigns and focus on development. Speaking in Mandera on February 4, he criticized those already politicking about the 2027 elections.

“You are being scared by the talk of 2027. This is not my concern. Will the 2027 election be any different from those we’ve had before? What’s the issue?” Ruto questioned.

He insisted that leadership should prioritize service delivery. He listed key projects like road construction, electricity expansion, education, and Universal Health Coverage (UHC) as his main focus.

“I will not be intimidated by threats about 2027. Instead of leading, they are constantly seeking votes. How can you campaign forever?” he asked.

Sifuna Fires Back: “Ruto Has No Moral Authority”

ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna swiftly dismissed Ruto’s call, accusing him of hypocrisy.

“Ruto campaigned nine out of the ten years he was Uhuru’s deputy. He has already embarked on campaigns for 2027. He has no moral standing to speak on early campaigns,” Sifuna stated.

The Nairobi Senator reminded Kenyans that Ruto spent most of his time in Jubilee actively mobilizing support for his presidential bid. He argued that the president is now trying to silence others while securing his own political future.

ODM Divided Over Ruto’s Government

Sifuna’s remarks have deepened divisions within ODM. Some party members have been rumored to be warming up to Ruto’s administration.

However, Kisii Governor Simba Arati has backed Sifuna, stating that he represents ODM’s official stance.

“ODM is not part of Ruto’s government. We have only provided experts in key positions to help deliver on promises,” Arati clarified.

He accused ODM defectors of betraying the party while Raila Odinga focuses on his bid for the African Union Commission.

Ruto’s 2027 Campaigns Already in Motion?

Despite his calls for a campaign pause, Ruto has been holding frequent political rallies. Critics argue that his cross-country tours resemble early electioneering.

Sifuna’s statements highlight a growing sentiment that Ruto wants opposition leaders to stay silent while he secures his reelection.
