Raila Mocks Gachagua’s ‘State House Traps’: “Where Is He Now?”
Vihiga, Kenya – Opposition leader Raila Odinga ridiculed former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua over his “State House traps” claims. Raila’s comments came during ODM deputy leader Godfrey Osotsi’s thanksgiving ceremony in Vihiga on December 1.
“Where Is Gachagua Now?”
Raila humorously questioned Gachagua’s absence since his impeachment. “Someone said Baba can’t get through traps. Where is he now?” Raila asked. The opposition leader referred to Gachagua’s earlier claims of fortifying State House to block Raila from influencing government decisions.
Gachagua had once declared, “I’ve set traps in every corner of State House. People notify me if anyone gets close.” Raila’s sarcastic remarks drew laughter from the crowd, emphasizing Gachagua’s fall from power.
A Shift in Gachagua’s Stand
During his impeachment debate, Gachagua admitted to loosening the so-called traps. He explained that President William Ruto’s decision to form a broad-based government, including opposition members, forced his change in tactics.
This revelation contrasted with Gachagua’s earlier hardline stance. He had vowed to block any handshake or power-sharing deal with Raila. Raila’s remarks highlighted this inconsistency, further mocking Gachagua’s political miscalculations.

What Lies Ahead for Kenya’s Politics?
Raila’s taunts expose the ongoing tensions between him and Gachagua. They also raise questions about unity within Kenya Kwanza after Gachagua’s impeachment. As these political heavyweights exchange blows, Kenyans wonder if such rivalries will lead to reconciliation or deepen existing divides.
