President William Ruto’s Heroic Welcome in Kondele Sparks Joy Among Kisumu Residents
President William Ruto was welcomed with overwhelming cheers in Kondele, Kisumu County, during his recent visit. The large crowds, known for supporting Raila Odinga, greeted him warmly, marking a stark contrast to the booing he faced in Mount Kenya days earlier.
Videos showed Ruto waving from his motorcade as it inched through the packed streets. Residents cheered enthusiastically, turning the occasion into a celebration.
The president thanked Kisumu residents for their warm reception. “Praise God, could you kindly greet me, people of Kisumu? I want to say that I am very grateful. Thank you for welcoming me,” Ruto said.
Speaking in Dholuo, Ruto further endeared himself to the crowd. “I greet you, our people. Are you there? Are you happy?” he asked, triggering even louder cheers.
Ruto assured the residents of his commitment to development. “I am here today with the agenda of ensuring development in our country, Kenya, starts with Kisumu County,” he announced.
He highlighted ongoing affordable housing projects in the area. “We are constructing 2,400 affordable housing units here in Kisumu. This will solve housing challenges and create jobs,” he added.
This warm reception in Kondele signals potential political gains for Ruto in an area traditionally aligned with the opposition. Many locals praised his approach to addressing their needs. “This shows he is a president for all Kenyans,” one resident said.

However, critics urged Ruto to deliver on his promises. Some questioned whether the announced projects would benefit the region as pledged.
Ruto’s visit to Kisumu showcased his effort to unify the nation and reach out across political divides. It also highlighted his focus on connecting with citizens and addressing their concerns.
