President Ruto Awards Ksh5 Million Scholarship to 250 Kwale TVC Students
The Head of State made the announcement on Friday, May 23, during his development tour of the Coast, where he launched and inspected several national government projects aimed at expanding employment opportunities, infrastructure and access to education.
Speaking at an event in Lunga Lunga, President Ruto said the scholarship programme would support young people enrolled in six-month technical courses at local Technical and Vocational Colleges (TVCs), with the government covering the cost of their training.

Based on the allocation announced by the President, each beneficiary is expected to receive slightly over Ksh20,000 to facilitate their studies.
“I want to sponsor the young people here. Those students of the six-month courses,” President Ruto announced before crowds gathered during the tour.
“More than 250 students will come to study here, and I am the one who will pay for them,” he added.
President Ruto further directed Mangale Chiforomodo Munga to supplement the scholarship fund through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) in order to expand the number of beneficiaries.
“I am also instructing your MP, Honourable Chiforomodo, to add some money to the scholarship money from the CDF, so that more students can come and study here in Kwale County,” Ruto directed.
The announcement comes at a time when the government is increasingly shifting focus towards technical education as part of efforts to tackle youth unemployment and bridge the country’s skills gap.
Ruto disclosed that the government is planning to initiate affordable housing projects within the county and insisted that local youth should be prioritised for available jobs.
He argued that empowering local communities through employment and technical training would strengthen economic growth and reduce dependency among young people.

According to the government, the digital hub is expected to support innovation, digital literacy and online job opportunities for youth in the region as Kenya continues pushing its digital economy agenda.
The President stated that expanding access to digital infrastructure and technical education would position young people to compete for opportunities both locally and internationally.
Beyond education, the Coastal development tour also focused heavily on land ownership and infrastructure projects that the government says are aimed at accelerating economic growth in the region.
Land ownership has remained a politically sensitive issue along the Coast for decades, with many residents previously raising concerns over historical land injustices and delayed documentation.
Additionally, the government unveiled plans to improve electricity connectivity through last-mile power projects targeting communities in Kinango and Lunga Lunga.

The President’s Coast tour is expected to continue with additional launches and stakeholder engagements as the government seeks to strengthen development projects across the region.
