Outrage as Litein Girls Principal Locks Out Students at Night, Public Demands Accountability

Shock and anger have gripped Kenyans after two students from Litein Girls School were reportedly locked out of the institution at night. The girls, returning from mid-term break, arrived late and were denied entry—sparking a wave of public condemnation.

“They Were Told to Go Home”—Students Left Stranded at Dusk

According to eyewitnesses, the students had traveled long distances from Nairobi and other regions. They arrived in the evening, only to find the school gate shut.

“The principal instructed them to return home,” a source revealed. “They were left outside, alone in the dark,” the source added.

An image shared by Kenyans.co.ke showed the girls huddled together at the gate, visibly distressed and vulnerable.

“Why Not Let Them In?”—Kenyans Slam School’s Harsh Decision

The incident triggered widespread outrage online. Many questioned the principal’s judgment and the school’s lack of compassion.

“Why not allow them in and send them home the next morning?” one citizen asked. “What were those children supposed to do at night?” another posted. “What if something happens to those ladies? I really condemn that,” a third commented.

The public demanded answers and accountability from the school administration.

“This Isn’t Isolated”—Other Schools Accused of Similar Actions

Sadly, this isn’t the first time students have been locked out. Earlier this year, St. Anne’s Girls Secondary School in Nairobi sent girls out over fee arrears. They spent part of the night outside in the cold.

“They were only allowed back after MP George Aladwa intervened,” a parent recalled.

In another case, Kegonye Secondary School in Nyeri left seven students stranded in Othaya town for arriving one hour late. With no transport, they were taken to a police station for safety.

“They came from Naivasha, Nakuru, and Ruiru,” a teacher confirmed. “They were expected by 1 pm but arrived at 2 pm,” he added.

“We Must Protect Our Children”—Public Calls for Policy Reform

As outrage grows, many are calling for clear policies to prevent such incidents. Parents, leaders, and activists are demanding humane treatment for students.

“Schools must prioritize safety over punishment,” said a concerned parent. “This culture of locking out children must end,” another added.
