Opposition Leaders Demand Omollo Resignation Over Alleged Goon Attacks as Osotsi Recounts Ordeal
Pressure is mounting on Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo after a section of opposition leaders accused him of masterminding a series of violent attacks targeting opposition politicians across the country.
The latest accusations were made on Saturday, April 11, during the discharge of Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi from The Karen Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment following a violent assault in Kisumu earlier in the week.
Led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, the leaders claimed that there was sufficient evidence linking the senior government official to the alleged mobilisation of gangs used to disrupt opposition activities.
“The person responsible for these goons has been identified by the people of Kisumu and Western Kenya, and he is Interior PS Raymond Omollo. We want him to be out of that office in the next two weeks or else we will be forced to take certain steps,” Sifuna stated.
He further alleged that multiple sources had independently pointed to the same conclusion, claiming that the involvement of the PS had been established “beyond any reasonable doubt,” although no official investigative findings have been publicly released to substantiate the claims.

The accusations come in the wake of a widely circulated incident in which Senator Osotsi was attacked at a Kisumu hotel, an ordeal he described as both targeted and politically motivated.
Recounting the events, Osotsi claimed that his attackers confronted him over his political stance and questioned his opposition to President William Ruto before assaulting him.
“Raymond Omollo is responsible for my attack, and I have evidence… I was being trailed, and they were using people close to me to spy on me,” Osotsi alleged.
CCTV footage from the scene, which has since circulated widely, shows a group of individuals confronting the senator, dragging him toward a pillar, and continuing the assault as staff members at the premises appeared unable to intervene.
The lawmaker sustained facial injuries and was initially admitted to Aga Khan Hospital Kisumu before being airlifted to Nairobi for specialised care.

Kaluma argued that the responsibility for investigating and prosecuting crimes lies with the National Police Service under the command of Inspector General Douglas Kanja, and not the Interior Principal Secretary.
He further cautioned against politicising criminal incidents, noting that unemployed youths could be recruited by various actors and that attributing such actions to a single individual without due process risks undermining institutional accountability.
The legislator maintained that Omollo had performed his duties effectively and should not be subjected to what he described as unwarranted accusations.
The developments reflect broader concerns over security and political tolerance in the country, particularly as rival camps continue to trade accusations over the use of hired groups to disrupt public events.

With the opposition issuing a two-week ultimatum and government allies pushing back, the unfolding situation is likely to test both the country’s investigative institutions and its political stability in the weeks ahead.
