Narok Residents Protest Over Missing Activist Following Clash at MP Ng’eno Funeral Event
Protesters marched to Ol Donyorok Police Post demanding answers about Kamilan’s whereabouts, amid growing fears that he may have been injured, detained, or killed during the chaos that unfolded days before the MP’s burial.
Witnesses say tensions escalated at Ng’eno’s rural home during a meeting convened ahead of the funeral, allegedly triggered by political differences and Kamilan’s past criticism of the deceased legislator.
According to residents, the activist was forcibly removed from the gathering and assaulted after mourners confronted him over remarks he had made in a viral social media video following the helicopter crash that claimed Ng’eno’s life.
The situation deteriorated further when leaders addressing the mourners urged unity during the mourning period while warning critics of the late MP to stay away from funeral arrangements.
Former Elkerin Member of County Assembly Daniel Langat delivered one of the most pointed remarks during the event.
“We must make it clear that those who opposed Ng’eno while alive are not welcome to be with us. You cannot have been openly fighting and besmirching his character, then suddenly turn up here to pretend to be grieving with us,” Langat said.

Shortly after the remarks, individuals believed to be allied to Kamilan were reportedly ordered to leave the venue. Witnesses claim a group of youths then confronted the activist directly, accusing him of disrespecting the late MP.
Accounts from those present indicate that Kamilan was physically attacked and left injured as tensions spiralled into chaos. Police officers at the scene reportedly fired shots into the air to disperse the crowd and restore order.
Since that incident on March 3, residents say the activist has not been seen, and attempts to reach him by phone have been unsuccessful.
Family members have expressed deep concern, stating that neither his wife nor children have any information about his whereabouts.
On Friday, Kamilan’s family formally petitioned authorities through their lawyer, Kipkoech Ng’etich, demanding immediate disclosure of his location.

The petition gives Douglas Kanja 24 hours to confirm whether Kamilan is in police custody or provide details on any ongoing investigations into his disappearance.
Human rights observers warn that enforced disappearances or failure to account for missing persons can significantly inflame tensions in already volatile situations.
Residents say the disappearance has deepened divisions in the community even after Ng’eno’s burial, with calls mounting for government intervention to restore calm and transparency.
Local leaders have urged restraint and appealed for patience as investigations continue, emphasizing the need to allow authorities time to establish facts.
Security analysts note that funerals of prominent political figures can sometimes become flashpoints for conflict, particularly in areas with pre-existing political rivalries.
As uncertainty persists, residents continue to demand accountability, insisting that authorities clarify whether the activist is alive and ensure his safe return if he is being held.

For now, Ang’ata Barrikoi remains tense, with community members anxiously awaiting official communication that could either confirm their fears or bring relief to a situation that has already sparked widespread concern across the region.
