Mbadi Declares Nyanza’s Loyalty to Ruto—Unless He Backs Raila for 2027

In a bold and emotionally charged declaration, Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi announced that the Nyanza region will support President William Ruto’s re-election—unless he chooses to step aside for ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Speaking passionately during a vibrant public rally on Friday, August 1, in Homa Bay County, Mbadi assured locals of ODM’s renewed political collaboration with Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

“ODM and UDA will work together until 2027 and even until 2032,” Mbadi told the cheering crowd.
“We will continue supporting Ruto until Jesus one day decides to separate us.”

His remarks left tongues wagging as they signaled a potential political shift in the traditionally opposition-leaning Nyanza region. Mbadi emphasized that Ruto’s support remains intact—but warned of one red line.

“The only thing that could stop us from voting for Ruto is if he decides to support Raila for the presidency,” he said.
“That is the only thing that could stop us from supporting Ruto’s presidency.”

As the crowd roared in response, the CS shifted his focus to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Without mincing words, Mbadi poured cold water on any idea of aligning with Gachagua ahead of the 2027 General Election.

“You see, the person who is currently calling us to go and join him in the opposition, when he joined the government, he said we can never get to State House,” Mbadi said, his tone filled with mockery.
“Now we are in the State House, and he is no longer there. Now that he is lonely in the streets, he is again calling us to get out of the State House to support him. Are we stupid?”

This rhetorical question sparked laughter and applause among residents, clearly resonating with many in attendance.

Meanwhile, just hours before Mbadi’s address, Mbita MP Millie Odhiambo also poured fuel on the political fire. She rejected the assumption that the opposition would automatically support Ruto in 2027.

“Support for Ruto is not guaranteed,” Millie asserted before a crowd.
“He may even have to support Raila himself if the tides turn.”

As the political landscape ahead of 2027 continues to shift, one thing is clear—Nyanza leaders are keeping their options open, and the stakes have never been higher.
