Trevor Ombija Claims Gachagua Sought His Dismissal After Heated Interview
Ombija made the allegation on Friday, September 18, while addressing residents in Nyakach as he stepped up his campaign for the parliamentary seat ahead of the 2027 General Election.

“As I stand here to address you, the former Deputy President Gachagua once called for my dismissal from work because we confronted each other.”
Ombija further claimed that his ethnic background featured in the disagreement surrounding his position at the media company.
Heated Gachagua Interview
The claim follows a heated interview between Ombija and Gachagua in March 2026. During the exchange, Gachagua accused the journalist of being biased and unprofessional while questioning the direction of the interview.
“Trevor, you have been very biased in this show, which has been very unprofessional.”
The interview was broadcast on Ramogi TV and featured Gachagua responding to questions about national politics, President William Ruto and his relationship with various political leaders.
The confrontation attracted further attention after video clips of the interview circulated online. A separate report also documented Gachagua criticising the presenters over the direction of the discussion.
Ombija Enters Politics
Ombija’s latest remarks come as he transitions from journalism into elective politics.
The broadcaster is seeking the Nyakach parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election after publicly announcing his political ambitions. His decision to enter politics has also brought renewed attention to his previous work as a television journalist.

Ombija has publicly expressed support for President William Ruto and the broad-based government. During his address in Nyakach, he linked his political decision to what he described as the administration’s agenda.
Ombija has been associated with Royal Media Services since 2018 and is the host of Monday Report on Citizen TV. Royal Media Services describes the programme as a topical town-hall format focused on national issues, featuring policymakers, leaders and members of the public.
No Response From Gachagua
The claim that Gachagua attempted to have Ombija dismissed remains an allegation by the journalist.
The former deputy president has continued to engage in political activities through the Democracy for Citizens Party as the country moves toward the 2027 election period.

The allegation is likely to attract further attention as both the journalist’s political campaign and Gachagua’s activities continue ahead of the 2027 General Election.
