According to Nyakera, the push to allow voters to use national ID cards instead of the official voter register is not innocent.
“The sudden push to use ID cards instead of the voter register is a well-coordinated narrative by Ruto and Raila to steal the 2027 elections,” Nyakera claimed on Tuesday, July 29.
He insisted that this shift is not just a reform, but a dangerous scheme with major implications for Kenya’s democracy.
Nyakera painted a disturbing picture. He pointed out that last week, 400,000 residents in Turkana were suddenly set to receive national IDs.
In another shocking revelation, Nyakera said Ruto lifted an ID vetting ban in Northern Kenya. That move came soon after projections showed the region could register 3.5 million new voters.
“Meanwhile, I have received credible intelligence on a clandestine 135-member team that has been deployed to suppress GEMA youth from obtaining IDs and registering to vote. I have already shared this information with the United Opposition leadership,” Nyakera said.
Former Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) board chair Irungu Nyakera during an event in November 2023.
This, he warned, could disenfranchise millions—especially the youth from the GEMA communities (Gikuyu, Embu, Meru).
He issued a passionate call to all Kenyans to remain alert and resist any move that could compromise the vote.
“Fellow Kenyans, let us not sleep through this calculated plan to deny us our democratic right to vote out this government,” he urged.
“And to those working in registration and ID departments: do not allow yourselves to be used to turn wantam into tutam. Kenyans are watching,” he warned.
