Martha Karua Dismisses Claims of Political Alliance With Ruto

People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua has broken her silence on claims linking her to President William Ruto’s camp.

Speculation had been spreading after a close ally of Ruto suggested that Karua was shifting her allegiance, just like former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. The ally claimed Karua had chosen to support the justice system and rally behind the president.

Karua Hits Back

However, Karua dismissed the claims sharply, calling them false and misleading.

“I do not belong to William Ruto’s praise choir, and I believe he is the most unsuitable character to ever have occupied high office,” Karua said.

She insisted that she remained committed to supporting former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s wantam agenda.

Karua also urged her supporters to remain alert and not fall for propaganda.

“Ignore the fake reports. I stand firm. I have not changed my political stand,” she declared.

Political Realignments

The strong statement comes at a time when the political ground is shifting rapidly ahead of the 2027 elections.

During the 2022 General Election, Karua was Raila Odinga’s running mate. Many Kenyans assumed she would follow Raila’s recent softening stance toward Ruto’s government.

But her fiery remarks have now quashed those speculations.

Rift With Raila

Karua has previously admitted to parting ways politically with Raila Odinga earlier this year.

The split came after Raila entered into a broad-based agreement with President Ruto, a move Karua openly opposed.

“I will only work with Raila again if he cuts ties with Ruto and supports my presidential bid,” Karua announced earlier.

She has already confirmed that she will contest for the presidency in 2027.

Ruto Preaches Unity

Meanwhile, President Ruto has continued to insist that his government is open to working with any leader.

“I welcome all leaders to join hands as we deliver development for our people,” the president has said in several forums.

His message has been one of unity, but critics like Karua remain firm in their opposition.

What Next for Karua?

Karua’s rejection of the alleged alliance with Ruto cements her position as one of the strongest voices in the opposition.

Her statement also signals that the race to 2027 will be defined by shifting loyalties, but she remains clear: she is not joining Ruto anytime soon.
