KRA Announces Mass Auction in Nairobi, Issues 30-Day Deadline to Goods Owners
Tension is rising among importers in Nairobi after the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) issued a strict 30-day deadline for owners of uncollected goods at the Inland Container Depot (ICD).
KRA Issues Official Warning
In a notice dated August 22, KRA declared that over 100 consignments left in custody of the Customs Warehouse Keeper would be disposed of if owners failed to collect them.
“A notice is given that unless the under-mentioned goods are entered and removed from the custody of the Customs Warehouse Keeper, Inland Container Depot, Nairobi, within thirty (30) days of this notice, they will be treated as abandoned and will be disposed of in accordance with the provisions of EACCMA, 2004 including being sold by public auction,” the notice read.
According to KRA, the public auction will run from October 6 to October 9, with all sales taking place on the taxman’s online portal.

Items at Risk of Auction
Among the goods facing auction are 20 packages of white refined sugar, each weighing 1,200 kilograms, and 408 packages of Koudijs broiler concentrate that were originally destined for Uganda.
Other abandoned goods include household and personal items such as used chairs, bicycles, and gym equipment. The list also features industrial and commercial property like refrigerator display cabinets, sewing machines, tiles, metal fittings, wooden furniture, coolers, and a water treatment plant with reverse osmosis.
Shockingly, even used wheelchairs are on the auction list, sparking emotional concern over why such items were abandoned.
Open Viewing for Buyers
KRA has invited interested buyers to inspect the goods before the auction. Viewing dates are set for October 2 and October 3, during official working hours.

“Interested buyers may view the goods at specific locations indicated on 2nd October, 2025, and 3rd October, 2025 during office hours,” KRA confirmed.
The taxman urged importers and businesses to take advantage of the deadline to save their goods before they are auctioned off at throwaway prices.
Fake Auction Alerts
Interestingly, the announcement comes just days after KRA warned Kenyans about fraudsters spreading fake auction notices.
KRA is now using this mass auction notice to reassert its official channels, urging Kenyans to confirm all announcements through its website and verified social media pages.

With the clock ticking, affected importers must act fast—or risk losing their goods forever.
