Kibera MP’s Driver Fined After Larry Madowo’s Viral Traffic Video Sparks Outrage

A dramatic scene unfolded at Milimani Law Courts on Monday morning as George Oduor, the driver of Kibera MP Peter Orero, faced charges for flouting traffic laws. His arrest followed a viral video captured by CNN journalist Larry Madowo, which ignited public outrage and prompted swift legal action.

“He Was Rushing the MP to the Airport”

According to court documents, Oduor was charged with obstructing traffic and driving on the wrong side of the road. He admitted guilt and apologized before the magistrate.

“I am sorry, Your Honour. I was in a hurry to drop someone off at the airport, and I will not repeat the offence,” said Oduor.

He was fined Ksh100,000 and released shortly after.

“Take Your Complaints to President Ruto”

In the now-viral video, Oduor engaged in a heated exchange with Madowo. At one point, he challenged the journalist.

“Take your complaints to President William Ruto,” Oduor snapped.

Madowo responded calmly and later posted a follow-up video promising action.

“I’ll drop the video off to the President as soon as I get a flash drive,” Madowo said.

Although Madowo didn’t recognize the MP during the incident, Kenyans on social media quickly identified him, sparking widespread criticism.

“We Must Record and Report These Abuses”

Nairobi County Chief Environment Officer Geoffrey Mosiria supported Madowo’s move and encouraged citizens to be vigilant.

“I will help deliver the flash drive to Ruto. Nairobians must be proactive and record such incidents,” Mosiria stated.

Other officials condemned the act, while some MPs defended Orero’s driver.

“VIP Privileges Don’t Excuse Lawlessness”

The National Police Service (NPS) also weighed in. Spokesperson Michael Muchiri clarified that only specific vehicles may obstruct traffic.

“Only ambulances, emergency vehicles, the President’s and Deputy President’s motorcades, and military convoys are allowed,” Muchiri said.

Traffic Police Commandant Fredrick Ochieng’ added that officers must only interfere with traffic when handling serious incidents.

“Earlier, a car with fake diplomatic plates was found driving on the wrong side. We’re investigating,” Ochieng’ revealed.

“No One Is Above the Law”

The incident has reignited debate over VIP impunity and traffic law enforcement. Citizens are demanding accountability and equal treatment on the roads.

“This must not be another forgotten case. We need answers,” one Nairobi resident said.

As the dust settles, one message rings clear: Kenyans are watching, and justice must prevail.
