KANU Breaks Silence, Slams Claims of Gideon Moi Backing Ruto Government
The Kenya African National Union (KANU) has come out guns blazing, rubbishing claims that its chairman Gideon Moi is backing President William Ruto’s administration.
On Thursday, July 24, KANU released a fiery statement discrediting a viral video portraying the former Baringo senator as a government sympathizer. The party branded the video as “deliberately misleading and politically calculated.”
“The clip in question, recorded during the funeral of the late Hosea Kiplagat in 2021, has been stripped of its proper context and paired with a distorted transcription to deliberately mislead the public,” KANU clarified.
The party expressed outrage over what it termed as “a futile misinformation campaign,” accusing Ruto’s allies of distorting facts to sway public opinion amid rising discontent.

“The calculated timing of this shallow and futile misinformation campaign to dupe the public is telling,” KANU declared.
“It comes at a time when the government is rapidly losing public trust and grasping at anything, including fabricating alliances where none exist.”
“Until such a time the party leadership and membership make a determination on our next political course and affiliation, Gideon Moi stays put,” the statement read.
They emphasized that all major political decisions go through structured party organs, not personal whims.
“Fundamental decisions about political alliances are sanctioned through structured party processes, collectively by the leadership and membership of the party,” KANU said.
Meanwhile, political tension continues to rise. On Wednesday, July 23, Martha Karua revealed she had personally urged Raila Odinga to distance himself from Ruto.
“After Saba Saba, I called him again, this time to ask him a question,” Karua said during an interview on NTV.
“I asked him, as a person who has, throughout most of his life, fought for Kenyans, how his conscience sits with the continuous blood-letting by the Kenya Kwanza regime.”
The unfolding events mark deepening cracks in the opposition coalition and growing resistance to Ruto’s leadership.

As misinformation spreads, political parties are now being forced to clarify positions more aggressively. KANU’s statement may have just drawn the line in the sand, reaffirming that Gideon Moi is not shifting sides.
