Speaking on the Social Newsroom Show with journalist Mark Masai on Monday, February 3, Kalonzo stated that Raila’s return to local politics after losing the AUC bid would be unexpected.
“I don’t see how Raila Odinga would lose the chairmanship and come back and say he wants to lead Azimio. I would be amazed personally. That would not be the Raila I knowIf he wins, beautiful for himself, the country, and the continent. If he loses, I think he should simply retire. I would advise Raila to retire and join former President Uhuru Kenyatta as a retired statesman,” Kalonzo said.
Kalonzo’s remarks have sparked debate. Raila has been a dominant figure in Kenyan politics for decades. Many supporters believe he still has a role to play, while others feel it’s time for new leadership.
With the election set for mid-February, the outcome will shape Raila’s political future. If he wins, he will shift focus to continental leadership. If he loses, the big question remains—will he take Kalonzo’s advice and retire, or will he make yet another political comeback?
