IG Kanja Accepts Samidoh’s Resignation From National Police Service
Popular Mugithi star Samuel Muchoki, better known as Samidoh, has officially left the National Police Service after 12 years of service.
Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja confirmed on Wednesday, August 20, that he had accepted the singer’s resignation.
Samidoh Chooses Music Over Police Service
For years, Samidoh balanced law enforcement duties with his fast-growing music career. However, he admitted the struggle had reached a breaking point.
In his resignation letter, the singer cited personal reasons, stressing he wanted to focus on music full-time.
Confirming the move, IG Kanja said:
“He is free to pursue whatever he wishes.”
The resignation took effect on July 20, 2025.

Desertion Allegations and Arrest Order
Samidoh’s decision followed months of tension with his employer. In June, the service accused him of deserting duty.
The ASTU commandant’s report read:
“APC Samuel Ndirangu Muchoki was granted off-duty and was supposed to report back on 27/05/2025, but he failed to do so.”
The service later suspended his salary and issued an arrest order.
At the time, Samidoh was allegedly performing abroad. Reports indicated he was on a U.S. tour without formal clearance.
Music, Politics, and Controversy
While in the U.S., Samidoh performed at the Ngemi Cia Ruraya event in Seattle, Washington. The event was attended by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
His appearance there fueled speculation that he had taken political sides.
Earlier, he had joined in the popular “wantam” chants directed at President William Ruto. This further deepened his troubles within the service.

Court Intervention
On July 25, 2025, a court granted Samidoh anticipatory bail of Ksh200,000. The court also barred police from arresting him but ordered him to surrender his passport.
The ruling gave the singer temporary relief as he weighed his future. His eventual resignation marked a dramatic conclusion to a long standoff with the police.
End of an Era, Start of Another
Samidoh’s transfer earlier this year to the Anti-Stock Theft Unit in Gilgil was widely seen as a disciplinary measure. His failure to report there eventually ended his career in uniform.
Now, with his resignation accepted, the star is free to chase music without restrictions. For fans, this may mark the start of a new, unstoppable chapter in his Mugithi journey.
