Iain Njiraini Warns David Maraga Against Trusting Gen Z Endorsement: “Don’t Let the Hype Fool You”
Former Chief Justice David Maraga has sparked debate after claiming Gen Z encouraged him to run for president in 2027. However, political analyst and pilot Iain Njiraini has issued a sharp warning, advising Maraga to tread carefully.
In a video shared on Instagram, Njiraini cast doubt on the reliability of Gen Z’s political endorsements. He cautioned Maraga against placing too much trust in youthful enthusiasm, which, he argued, often fades before elections.
“Gen Z Support is Unstable”
Njiraini pointed out that young voters have previously rallied behind leaders, only to abandon them later.
“The former Supreme Court president and chief justice, David Maraga, mentioned that young people encouraged him to vie for the presidency. However, I want to caution him because this is not the first time the youth have thrown their weight behind a leader, only to backtrack or fail to unify when it matters most,” he stated.
He stressed that Gen Z’s activism, though powerful, has struggled to translate into lasting political action.
“There was a time when young people stood together, making a strong statement, but since then, we have not seen any sustained efforts to remain united, especially in rallying behind a single leader in the run-up to 2027,” he added.
“Words Must Match Actions”
Njiraini insisted that for any leader to take Gen Z’s endorsement seriously, young voters must prove their commitment. He urged them to turn their vocal support into real votes, warning that political hype alone leads to failure.
“As long as we continue seeing this trend where young people call upon individuals to lead but fail to stand firmly behind them when the time comes, then we have a problem. It is a strategy for failure,” he remarked.
Njiraini’s comments come amid growing speculation over Maraga’s potential presidential bid. While some believe his clean track record and judicial integrity make him a viable candidate, others question whether he has the political experience to compete in Kenya’s high-stakes elections.
