Former CS Justin Muturi’s Easter Post Sparks Controversy
The poster, featuring Muturi’s image emerging from clouds beside a cross, sparked confusion instead of reflection. The Easter message, placed in tiny text, only added to the mystery.
“Is This an Obituary?” Netizens Ask
Many Kenyans online were visibly shaken. Several thought the graphic resembled a funeral notice.
“Had to read again and again, thought this was some obituary, bad news or a fake account,” one user posted.
Another X user fumed,
“The communications manager and the graphics designer need to be out of the payroll like yesterday.”
The poster, with its somber tones and heavenly imagery, seemed more suited to mourning than celebration. People felt it lacked the joy Easter usually brings.
What Could Have Been Done Differently?
Suggestions quickly followed. One user advised using bright colors like yellow or gold.
They noted, “Clouds suggest mourning. Try flowers, joy, and warmth for Easter.”
Another criticized the small font, saying it buried the message instead of highlighting it.
The Coat of Arms Sparks New Concerns
More criticism arose over Muturi’s use of the national Coat of Arms. Since he no longer holds a government position, many questioned the legality and ethics of including the emblem.

Kenyans weren’t just focused on the poster’s design. Some felt Muturi was trying to cling to authority he no longer held.
A Man at Odds with Power
Muturi’s recent posts have reflected a man disillusioned with leadership. He hasn’t shied away from criticizing President William Ruto, especially after being dismissed as Public Service CS.
In a bombshell revelation, Muturi alleged that Ruto once pressured him to sign a shady Ksh129 billion deal at an airport. The deal, involving Russian investors, was tied to the government’s tree-planting initiative.
Muturi refused to sign without reviewing the documents. That decision, he said, marked the beginning of their fallout.
He later slammed the administration, calling Ruto’s presidency “the most unfortunate thing that could have happened to Kenya.”
Easter or Exit?
While the intention may have been pure, Muturi’s Easter poster painted the wrong picture—literally and politically. In the age of online scrutiny, even a holiday greeting can turn into a national debate.
