FKF Ordered to Maintain Status Quo Ahead of FIFA-CAF Kenya Visit
The planned visit, expected after June 18 subject to logistical arrangements, comes amid growing concerns over the management and stability of the federation following a highly publicized leadership wrangle that has threatened to disrupt football administration in the country.
In a communication addressed to FKF National Executive Committee (NEC) members, FIFA confirmed that it was closely monitoring developments and was coordinating with CAF to establish the facts surrounding the dispute before offering guidance on the way forward.
“We refer to our previous correspondence as well as to FIFA’s letter dated 25 May 2026 addressed to the members of the FKF National Executive Committee,” FIFA stated.

The global football body added that preparations for the visit were already underway.
“In this context, and further to our recent exchanges, we would like to reiterate that FIFA, in coordination with CAF, is currently in the process of organising a joint mission to Kenya,” the statement added.
The intervention by FIFA and CAF is widely viewed as a significant development, highlighting the seriousness with which the two organizations view the unfolding governance challenges at FKF.
According to FIFA, the purpose of the mission will be to engage directly with members of the federation’s National Executive Committee and gain a detailed understanding of the circumstances surrounding the dispute.
“The purpose of this visit will be to engage directly with the members of the FKF National Executive Committee and to discuss in detail the current situation, with a view to obtaining a comprehensive understanding of the matters at hand and providing appropriate guidance,” FIFA explained.
As part of its directive, FIFA has instructed FKF officials to maintain the current status quo until the mission is completed.

“In light of the above, and in the interest of safeguarding institutional stability, we kindly but firmly request that the members of the FKF National Executive Committee refrain, in the meantime, from convening further meetings or taking decisions that may have an impact on the governance, leadership or overall stability of the federation until the FIFA/CAF mission has taken place and the relevant discussions have been held,” FIFA warned.
The world football governing body further instructed FKF officials to circulate the communication to all NEC members to ensure that every stakeholder is aware of the directive.
At the centre of the dispute is a controversial Ksh42 million insurance arrangement linked to preparations for the African Nations Championship (CHAN), which some officials claimed required further scrutiny.
In late April, nine out of the fourteen NEC members reportedly voted in favor of suspending Mohammed, paving the way for Deputy President McDonald Mariga to assume leadership in an acting capacity.
The move, however, triggered sharp divisions within the federation, with rival camps questioning the legality of the suspension and the procedures used to effect the leadership changes.

With the FIFA-CAF delegation now preparing to visit Kenya, attention will be focused on whether the mission can help restore stability and unity within FKF. The findings and recommendations from the visit are expected to play a crucial role in determining the future leadership and governance direction of Kenyan football.
